The study aims to analyze the dynamics of the landscape within the regional protected areas, evaluating the quality of the landscape as an important indicator of balance and/or imbalance of the regional development model, investigating the relationship between this resource and the management of protected areas. In particular, the relationship between the dynamics of the landscape and biodiversity, with reference to the regional and European regulations concerning the conservation of nature, were analyzed. The area is entirely included within the Regional Park of the Apuan Alps and is of particular interest for its hydrogeological structure, being subject to exceptional rainfall which sometimes lead to catastrophic landslides. The study suggests the need for the development of a landscape monitoring system also useful to the evaluation of landslide risk.
